Before the plating process begins, the wheels are separated, paint-stripped and polished.  Next, a layer of copper is added and the wheels are copper buffed.  Finally, layers of nickel and chromium are added to create an eye catching shine.  For more of a detailed description of the process and a lesson in Chemistry, read an article published in the Thunderpress.   [ Article ]

Once the wheels have been separated, they are Miked (measured) and turned down.  Here Jose Ramos "Jo Jo" is measuring the outer.
Jose Nunez is turning down the outer edge on the center so that after the copper, nickel, and chrome are applied, it will fit back into the original outer.

Jose Landa is pulling the center out of the copper plating tank.  A good layer of copper allows for better adhesion and longevity of the chrome plating.
After copper plating, the wheel must be buffed and the layer of bright nickel must be added.  Jose Landa is buffing out any imperfections in the cast (surface) of the wheel.
Bonifacio Ramos "Boni" shows the center fresh out of the chrome tank.
Boni shows off how a center looks after being rinsed.  Now the chroming process is complete!  Chromed Outer freshly rinsed off.
After the layers of nickel, copper, and chrome have been applied, the wheels are reassembled.  Here Jose and Jo Jo are putting the centers back into the outers.
